Does it hurt?

Each person has a different pain tolerance.  You may find there is some level of discomfort in certain areas, however each hairstroke is over fairly quickly.

NOTE: Topical Anaesthetic.  Due to the Medicines, Poisons and Therapeutic Good Act 2008 we are unable to provide numbing cream. However we offer our clients a complimentary medical grade topical anaesthetic at Dr Tony Tonks Clinic.  Usually this cream is applied by a nurse 1 hr before your treatment, then come to your appointment with it on.

The other option is to purchase your own topical anaesthetic from a Compounding Chemist.  They can mix up a stronger cream for you (compared to over the counter creams sold at regular chemists) We recommend Pharmasave in Woden.  Please call them to order your cream a couple of days ahead and then collect it.  Ask for numbing cream that will work to numb the skin before the procedure and also for use once the skin is broken, then bring it along with you so we can apply it for you during your procedure.

How long does it last?

Cosmetic tattooing is semi-permanent, and is designed to fade over time. Usually we say results last anywhere from 1-3 years.

Depending on your skin type, treatment may need to be retouched every year to keep the colour looking fresh. Oily skin types may require more touch ups.

Lighter pigments fade faster than dark. Lifestyle factors affect fading, like spending lots of time in the sun. Chemical peels, laser and skin products with acids that comes into contact with the pigmented area will fade your cosmetic tattoo.

What will it look like immediately after the procedure?

Immediately after the procedure it may appear darker and bolder, but during the healing process this will soften and colour can fade up to 40%.

There may be some redness around the brow area, but its usually very minimal and there is no swelling.  The day after you should have no redness and could easily return to work.

Healing process takes approx. 10 days, where you will have some light scabbing/flaking.

What techniques do you offer?

We use a digital machine for Hair stroke and Ombre shading brow techniques.  Both can be combined for a ‘Combo brow’ which is hair strokes with some light shading for more definition.

We are also offer Microblading for those with the right skin type. This is done by a hand held tool with a number of needles aligned into a fine blade.

As a precaution, we do not perform cosmetic tattooing if any of the following apply:

  • Pregnant/breastfeeding
  • Cancer/Undergoing treatment (If you are post treatment please obtain a letter from your Doctor confirming you can have your brows tattooed)
  • Botox or fillers around the brow area (if done within 3 weeks of your appointment)
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy
  • Or if you are taking any of the following medications – Roaccutane or blood thinners.

Is it safe?

Concept pride ourselves on a sterile environment for our clients. We comply with the Health Department of the ACT Government and hold a current Infection Control Activity Licence, and we are fully insured.

All needles and tools are pre-packaged and sterilised for your safety, and everything is completely disposable.

Concept uses one of the highest quality pigment lines available. Pre & Post Care

You will get much better results when you properly prep your skin. It all starts with a good canvas! The eyebrow area must be healthy, strong, non-sensitive and non-irritated.  Here’s how to get your skin ready for the procedure.

  • Do not pick/tweeze/wax/perform electrolysis one week before procedure
  • Do not tan two weeks prior or have sunburned face
  • Do not have any type of facial/peel 2 weeks prior to treatment
  • Discontinue Vitamin A/Retinol products one month prior to treatment
  • Do not work out the day of the procedure. (avoid sweating)
  • Do not have botox 3 weeks prior
  • Do not take Fish Oil or Vitamin E one week prior (natural blood thinners)
  • Do not wax or tint your eyebrows 3 days before the procedure.
  • In order to avoid excessive bleeding and poor colour deposit:
  • Do not drink alcohol 24 – 48 hours before your tattoo
  • Do not consume coffee before your procedure
  • Do not take an aspirin or ibuprofen for pain relief (this thins the blood)

The day of the treatment

Gently blot the area with clean tissue to absorb excess lymph fluid. Do this every 5 minutes for the full day until oozing has stopped. Removing this fluid prevents hardening, and therefore less scabbing.

Days 1-10 - Healing process

Please try to keep your eyebrows as dry as possible during the healing process.

Do not touch, rub, pick or scratch your eyebrows following the treatment.  You may find that your eyebrows will scab (which is completely normal) become slightly dry or itchy.  Please don’t scratch, just lightly tap them to relieve the itch.

Apply a rice grain amount of aftercare ointment with a cotton bud and spread it across the eyebrow area.  Be sure not to over-apply as this will suffocate your skin and delay healing.  Clients can use a cotton bud and soapy water (use a very gentle cleanser such as Cetaphil or QV wash) to gently remove previous layer of ointment, and cleanse the eyebrow area. Pat dry.

NOTE: if you have excessively oily skin you may not need to apply ointment.

No make-up should be applied to the brow area during the healing process.

Important Reminders

  • Use a fresh pillowcase
  • Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away. Picking can cause scarring or loss of colour
  • No facials, botox, chemical treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks
  • Avoid hot, sweaty exercise for one week
  • Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks after procedure.  Wear a hat when outdoors.
  • Avoid heavy sweating and long hot showers for the first 10 days.
  • Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days
  • Avoid swimming, lakes, hot tubs for the first 10 days
  • Avoid topical makeup including sunscreen on the area
  • DO NOT rub, pick or scratch the treated area.

Important note about showering

Limit your showers to 5 minutes so you do not create too much steam. Keep your face/procedure out of the water while you wash your body, then, at the end of your shower, wash your hair. Your face should only be getting wet at the very last end of the shower.  Avoid excessive rinsing and hot water on the treated area.

Terms & Conditions

Cosmetic tattooing is an art not a science, therefore individual results cannot be guaranteed.

Eyebrow tattooing/feathering is a 2 step process. Your touch up appointment is important so that we can see how your skin has retained the pigment and make any necessary changes.

Additional sessions may be necessary for oily or troublesome skin to achieve the desired results and will be charged accordingly.

Many factors affect your individual results, such as your age, skin type, healing process, following the aftercare instructions, and how well your skin retains pigment. The tattoo artist has no control over these factors. Therefore no refunds will be provided.

PLEASE NOTE: If you already have your brows tattooed, you must come in for a consultation. We cannot make tattoo appointments before you have been assessed by our tattoo artist. Sometimes laser removal is recommended instead of tattooing over the top.
